On empty streets
Finally.
I see you across an empty street
standing still like there's oncoming traffic.
I see you take a measured step
Not quite trusting the lights or signs
That light up above my head
You're safe... come to me.
But still you look both ways
At phantom cars that are out to get you.
So I step forward
One foot before the last in a chain of steps
That have no end till it meets you.
Seeing me, your face lights up
And its so bright it would stop everything
So why the fear?
We're all alone, its just you and me
Your fears, and my assurance crossing these
Lonely streets.
And now we meet.
Right here on the line between this way and that.
I offer my hand but instead you grab my sleeve
Kiss my lips but instead you kiss my cheek
The lights are changing.
Things aren't as they were before
Things aren't as they should be.
I'll follow you
But I'd rather you follow me.
Somehow I know this road ends with you without me.
We're all alone its just you and me
Your fears, and my asssurance crossing these
Lonely streets.
But somehow you get lost in the straightness of this road
And I am left with phantom cars chasing me
On these lonely streets
On these empty streets
There's nothing for you to fear
Its only you and me.
